The previous patient we spoke about was exhibiting the signs and symptoms of Chagas Disease. The parasite that causes it is called Trypanasoma Cruzi and it can be very hard to detect as it can have no visible symptoms for a long period of time. It is often described as a disease of poverty because the bug likes to hide in wooden houses with cracks and surrounded by heavy vegetation. This disease can be transmitted from the mother to the placenta and cause heart defects in the baby.
