Universal Healthcare is used in Costa Rica and it is a very unique and interesting system. Universality does not mean free healthcare and requires five main points for it to operate smoothly. It requires community participation, equity, solidarity, mandatory, and universality. There are three levels of care here that serve the population and increase in complexity as you go further. The first level of treatment is at the EBAIS where it is a basic health care team that can attend to routine illnesses. Next there is the second level where there are regional hospitals, specialists and more complex illnesses are seen. Lastly the third level holds the National and specialty hospitals where the most complex cases are seen. Medical tourism is big in Costa Rica because the procedures are less costly and the healthcare provided is the same quality. Costa Rica is home to several Blue Zones, areas where there are people living well past a  100 years old because of their diets and lifestyles.
